Past Participants

The people listed below have all participated in previous Run America events.  We could not have achieved our current success without them and we will miss them during the relay in 2010.

Bill Barber is a graduate of Lewis and Clark law school.  Bill is an outstanding athlete who ran track for the University of Georgia, and placed 11th at the Big Sur Marathon in 2001. RA I, II.

Nick Burns is the former United States Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs and is now a professor at Harvard’s Kennedy School. He is an old friend of both Craig’s and Barry’s and hosted us all at our finale in Washington DC in 2007. We hope his “teacher hours” will let him participate in our Lake Michigan run and ride. RA III.

Skip Feist is an old friend of Barry’s and Craig’s from high school.  Bored with just one job, Skip is the VP of Finance and CFO of American Biltrite Inc. in Wellesley, MA and the CFO of Congoleum Corporation in Mercerville, NJ. Skip is a steady runner who came out with his wife Susan to run the Hood to Coast Relay with Craig and Barry in 1992. He was the only one on the team crazy enough to go for a “fun” run the morning after the relay.  RA I.

Bill Hodge is a professor of law at the University of Auckland (New Zealand). Bill is truly addicted to running, having completed more than 100 marathons!  Bill was a coast-to-coast participant in the first Run America relay and at 67 years of age was an inspiration to us all.  Bill also flew in from Auckland to join us on the Blue Ridge five years later.  RA I, III.

Melissa Powers is a graduate of Lewis and Clark Law School and is now there as Assistant Professor of Law teaching energy law, climate change law, ocean & coastal law, administrative law, and other environmental courses. In addition to her running feats, which includes a marathon, Melissa once took a solo bicycle ride from Berkeley, CA, to Oaxaca, Mexico (but took a ferry over the Sea of Cortez!). RA I.

Dan Pratt is a long-time friend of Craig’s and Barry’s who ran on their relay teams for many years. Due to knee problems, he is now unable to run but is an avid cyclist.  He covered every mile of the route from Portland to San Francisco in 2006. RA II.
